Thailand – Sights and Travel Tips

Thailand is a very popular tourist destination in Asia and it is not hard to see why. The country offers an abundance of natural attractions, unique cuisine, and great people – not to mention fantastic weather!

Visa Requirements

Visitors from most Asian nations as well as tourists from the European Union and Western countries are not required to have a visa to enter Thailand if their primary purpose for visiting is a vacation. However, you need to have a passport valid for at least six months from the date of your arrival in the country. Depending on the home country and the means of transportation, visitors get permits of different lengths, so it is best to get in touch with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to find out more. Tourists should also note that they are legally required to carry their passport with them at all times.

Things to Do

Thailand constantly draws tourists year in and year out. One of the most popular tourist attractions are the many beautiful beaches Thailand has to offer. Another fun activity is golf, which is a very popular sport in the country and almost everyone in the country plays it.

Popular outdoor activities in Thailand include rock climbing, cycling, trekking, surfing, and scuba diving. If you enjoy a Thai massage, you should really try out a Thai massage. Spas are abundant in the country and tourists should definitely be pampered and enjoy this luxurious experience.

Sights to See

Aside from the beautiful beaches Thailand offers, there are also other great sights. One of these is the Khao Yai National Park in which tourists can experience forests and wildlife in a peacefully serene atmosphere. In the northern part of Bangkok, Thailand‘s capital, tourists will also find plenty of historic ruins, which are part of the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Khao Sok National Park is also a great place to visit. Being the oldest and biggest rainforest in the country, it is a great place for hiking as well as discovering a diverse variety of flora and fauna.

Behavior Tips for Foreigners

Thai people are very easy to get along with, as long as you do not insult the Royal Family. If for instance you drop a Thai coin or a paper bill, never stop it by stepping on it – just bend down to pick it up. The king’s face is on almost every currency and stepping on it is considered the same as stepping on the king’s face.

With Thai people naturally being conservative people, well-dressed foreigners will be surprised at the amount of respect and attention they will receive compared to others who are not so well-dressed. You should also be aware that you are required to take off your footwear when entering places of worship and homes, and even some shops.

In the event that you come across a monk, keep in mind that offering them money is a sign of disrespect. If you would like to make an offering to a monk, you should give food instead. Women should never give anything directly to a monk – it is best to place it in front of the monk so he can pick it up himself.

Thai Girls And Thailand Travel in 5 Easy Steps

If you’ve hit an age where meeting attractive younger (than you) girls or women seems to be a wicked challenge, maybe it’s time to consider opening your mind to new horizons. Yes I’m talking about Thai girls and Thai women here. And doing it from a guy who has lived in Thailand for the best part of four years.

But before we meet the perfect Thai girl, why Thailand? Maybe it’s the attention. It’s hard not to be taken by people who seem to be always smiling, welcoming and friendly. And with a great ‘not too serious about anything much’ attitude and the Thai Buddhist qualities, well, it’s all quite compelling.

Anyway, Thailand is a world in itself, so be prepared to be amazed and have all your normal ‘logical’ thinking replaced with ongoing illogical and strange behavior. In other words, Thailand is a completely weird place. Just remember that when you travel to a foreign country, after you get there, you become the foreigner…

Amongst all its differences, the pleasures are true and fascinating. There’s no doubt Thailand is a crazy world. But strangely enough, it seems to hang together well. And the proof is in the pudding… having thrown myself into this lifestyle, I now feel somewhat ‘apprehensive’ about having to travel to a Western country and meet Western people. Why would I feel that way?

Maybe because I’ve been immersed in smiling, polite Thai people who always welcomed me and wanted to know about me. Maybe because I’ve been surrounded by Thai food that is always so important everywhere you go. Food that… “shows how we delicately care about feelings of people.” And then there’s the Thai girls…

Let’s talk about Thai girls and the Thai world through these 5 simple steps:

Step one: Go to http://yourthaigirl.com and read the downloadable ebook, (and while you’re there sign up to the Thai Girl, Thai Life newsletter). In this ebook you’ll learn all about Thai culture, lifestyle, and of course, Thai girls.

You get savvy on what to do, what not to do, when to do it, and where to go and do it. You’ll know what it all means, and the ebook will give you the ‘inside picture’ to the world of Thailand.

Step two: Book your ticket to Thailand as soon as you can. When you arrive, prepare for the slam… the heat… an invisible hammer that hits you with its mighty force… rushes to greet you with the power of a thousand simmering angels…

And yet, before you know it, you’ll be slipping down the long passageways inside the cool air conditioned airport. Get your bags, your bearings, your Thai girl book and prepare for your biggest journey. (Hey, Thailand is not as hot as you think :-)

Step three: Get out and meet and greet people. Prepare your name card, your few words of Thai, a nice hotel or resort with a funny name, and your best clothes. In this country, it pays to look good. Thai’s like to be clean, fresh, and attractive. No kidding.

Step four: Just be you. Expect lots of questions. The Thai’s want to learn English… speak English with you. You’ll have a great, precious, remarkable time. Be adventurous. Be a tourist. Learn new things. Travel on the sky train.

Step five: That’s it, all done. Remember though to keep light-hearted. The Thai’s like to have fun, not be ‘too serious’ and will appreciate it if you show respect to the things that are important to them. The key word is enjoyment. Have fun.

Actually, there’s really nothing to it. It’s so easy (once you’re here!) The main thing is to keep your calm, appreciate the beauty of Thai girls, seek out quality relationships, and let me know how it all goes, okay.

Backpacking in Thailand – The Best Gear to Travel With

What is the best gear to travel with if you’re planning to backpack through Thailand (or travel on a budget)? Well, it depends of course on where you’re heading. If you go north, then pack for cool nights and mountain climbing. If you head south, then prepare for magnificent ocean adventures.

Firstly, if your plans include Chiang Mai or north then keep in mind it gets kind of chilly and you’ll need warm gear and the right kit (ie. strong walk boots) for doing some trekking or exploring. However if you’re going to hit the oceans on your Thai journey, then let’s look at what you’ll need.

OK, first up, the ever trusty waterproof ‘sea’ bag. These colorful little creatures will save your bacon in more ways than one, especially if you’re a water baby and you love to be immersed in the sea all day. With your essential belongings safely enclosed in one of these you can explore ANY remote beach and still pull out a camera to capture the fun. An essential piece of ocean travel kit.

Next up is the go-anywhere sea sandals. You know the type – they embrace your feet and let you walk on sharp rocks and swim without worrying about what’s down there. Then wear them down the street to get your Pad Thai. A good quality pair of these will last you forever and are essential for a good and safe Thailand adventure.

You’ll need a quality jacket too, for the odd storm that steals in out of nowhere. Heaps of choices available, so get something that’s lightweight and strong that’ll cope with the wear and tear of being stuffed in your backpack and used frequently. It’s Thailand, so it won’t need to be too warm. In fact, the more breathable, the better.

Well, that’s it in a nutshell. There’s other gear that’ll you want to bring but having those three pieces of kit will keep a smile on your face as you backpack through Thailand and have the adventure of your life!
